  1. I was probably 3 or 4 when I first saw this and I can confirm what Joseph said. Since Ichabod was the main character I had assumed he was he hero of the story, Brom was the bully and Katrina was the damsel in distress. Because of that I never really liked this story as a kid because of the implication that the hero might’ve died (with a picture book I had read based on this Disney version outright stating he died, with the last page being a picture of his ghost in a pumpkin patch) and the bully getting the girl. Like you two though, as I got older and rewatched it I realized that none of them are good people and that I hated all of them, but I also grew to appreciate this great story.

I agree with almost everything you guys said in this episode, except for calling Brom a hero. Ichabod may be a worse guy, but Brom is still egotistical, vindictive and, as you two pointed out, uses Tilda to try to get to Katrina and then locks her in a closet when he doesn’t need her. Sure, the town may see Brom as a hero, but Gaston’s town saw him as a hero too; and this guy gave off some serious Gaston vibes.

Obviously the best part is still the Headless Horseman chase. When I first saw it as a little kid it definitely creeped me out but I wouldn’t say it scared me……until the Headless Horseman throw the Jack-o-lantern at Ichabod.

If you guys want to see a really interesting version of this story, I recommend The Night of the Headless Horseman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUbK1a8Yb7U). The CGI is definitely outdated, as this special was released in 1999, but it is probably the darkest animated take I’ve seen of this story. I mean, it actually has Brom make a deal with the devil to get rid of Ichabod. Plus it has a great voice cast, with Mark Hamill, Clancy Brown, Jeff Bennett, and Bill Fagerbakke.

    • Oh man bad CG aside i gotta watch that because it sounds really sweet! And yes I do think Brom was the prototype for Gaston. Gaston was basically Brom Bones dialed up to 100.
