  1. For this show I only got around to watching the first episode, which I felt mixed about. I liked the interactions between most of the characters, but I wasn’t all that interested in the story. Admittedly, just watching the first episode isn’t giving a show much of a chance, so I decided to wait for you episode to see what you guys thought and if I wanted to continue watching this show. Now after hearing your opinions I’m just as torn, as it seems my likes and dislikes get flipped as the show goes on.

I like that this show doesn’t pull any punches and aren’t afraid to give the bad guys some major victories. However, and again this is just going off what I’ve heard you guys talk about, it sounds like they don’t fully give it the emotional weight it deserves. For example, the Earth being decimated should have been how one of the episode ended, instead of happening in the beginning, with the next episode being the characters dealing with the aftermath. And of course the main character should have more of a reaction than “eh, whatever”.

That love triangle sounds annoying too and it makes me worried that it’s a big part of the show.

On a plus side, I do like the idea of the villains from the first episode(s) eventually teaming with Earth to combat an even greater threat.

I think another reason why I’m hesitant about continuing this show is that mecha anime just isn’t my cup of tea. Admittedly I am a fan of things that are similar to mecha but not quite the same, like Transformers and certain seasons of Power Rangers. With Transformers I think the whole lore of that series makes it more appealing and with certain seasons of Power Rangers it’s a mix between nostalgia and cheesy fun (and surprisingly, the occasional interesting story and characters, like in one series called RPM, which is basically Power Rangers in a post-apocalyptic setting).

I’m really excited for The Christmas tree next time, and if I had to guess, I think you’re going to watch through the entire special in a video, just like with the second Howard Lovecraft movie.
