  1. ‘Sigh’. I must admit, I used to love this show back when I was a kid when it first premiered. While, I do feel a sense of embarrassment for having enjoyed this as a kid, it’s not as much as I thought it would be going back to it for this episode. I think the reason for that is because I think I understand why I like this as a kid.

Chris was right, the concept of aliens coming to Earth to conquer it, but ending up loving the planet and its culture and having to pretend to conquer it to please their leader, while also saving it from other threats, is a really good concept. If this show had better writing and better characters, I could probably still enjoy it today, even with the bad animation (I can easily forgive bad animation if the story and/or characters are interesting).

Looking back at this as it is, it just feels like a cheap and lazy toy commercial, emphasis on cheap and lazy. I mean look at the designs of the martians and their BKM suits, they’re practically identical in designs, except for the color. I’m sure that was intentional so they could just use the same mold for the toys and then just recolor them.

Would you believe that Universal studios was planning on making a movie based on this series, and the only reason it wasn’t made was because of Robert Stack’s death. Maybe that’s why they did that fakeout at the end with the robots, they might’ve been planning to end it there but then left it open for the movie (at least, that’s my guess).
