I’m shocked to hear you guys missed this show when it was first on, but as they always say better late than never.
What’s there to say about Samurai Jack that hasn’t been said already, including the stuff you guys said. This along with Primal and Star Wars: The Clone Wars (the 2D animated one) has cemented Genndy Tartakovsky as one of, in not the best, western animator in terms of action sequences and visual storytelling.
It’s funny that Aku was what turned Chris off of the show when it was on as he was of my favorite things about the show back then. I’m glad you compared him and Jack to The Joker and Batman, as one of the things I love about Aku is how he can go from being funny to intimidating like the flip of a switch, just like the Joker can too. I’m a little disappointed you didn’t watch the episode where Aku discovers that the local children idolize Jack and hate him so he tries to improve his image among them by reading stories to them.
I’ve never seen Lawrence of Arabia but I know it’s considered to be one of the all time great movies, so I’d say there’s no reason to feel weird about it being one of your favorite movies.
We like the idea of revisiting some of the shows at a later date – definitely considering this!
While listening to this episode, which by the way is one of your better ones IMO, I heard that you had not watched every episode but this show was now on the list to watch the rest of the series. I have heard you guys saying the same about other shows. Is there any way that you might give us, your listeners, an update. Which shows have you, after the initial review watching, finished the entire run? When doing so have you changed your thoughts or opinions from the original viewing? Maybe an occasional segment or entire “mailbag” or “silver Spoonie” type episode?
