I agree with you guys about this being the best version of Garfield out there.
I’m a little disappointed you didn’t get to do an episode with the Buddy Bears as it was always fun watching them go against Garfield and Roy. They were a great way for the showrunner, Mark Evanier, to make fun of The Get Along Gang, a show he previously had to write for
I believe the way it worked in the original comic strips was that Garfield’s dialogue was just his inner thoughts. Although I’m not sure if that’s how it works in this show and I’m sure there’s later strips that probably contradict this idea.
Also, to answer another question, no the first intro was never used during the syndication airings. If they showed an episode from the first two seasons, they just replaced the first intro with the second one.
Not only was the last theme song not used in syndication, but the last three seasons were never shown in syndication either. CBS didn’t want to sell the rights to those seasons at first, then when they were supposed to be added years later most broadcast stations didn’t see the point in added them since the show was already successful.
Funny enough, the theme song for last season wasn’t even shown in international airings, only the US got to see it……lucky us.
One interesting bit of trivia, after CBS cancelled the show they tried to sell it to Fox Kids. After presenting this off-model pitch reel (https://www.instagram.com/p/BF10L2qMkgA/) Fox Kid’s executives had security escort them off the premises.
