  1. I had watched this movie a few times as a kid (I think it might’ve actually occasionally aired on Disney Channel back when it was a premium channel), as well as the follow-ups you guys mentioned. However, I had watched this again 2 or 3 years ago for the first time in a long time and I was surprised how dark it was and how much better it was than I remembered.

I think this could be a contender for saddest animated children’s movie, and admittedly, the real-life tragedy of Judith Barsi factors into that. Did you know that they actually redesigned Anne-Marie so she’d bear more of a resemblance to Judith. Also, that scene with the Flash Gordon ray gun was actually supposed to be a real machine gun, but they changed it after Judith’s death.

I had to go back and look at the ‘Let’s Make Music Together’ scene to see if Charlie and King Gator actually interacted with each other. There is a very brief exchange that they share where King Gator asks about his vocal tone and Charlie starts to respond with “It’s a-“. Also, Charlie and King Gator sing together toward the end of the song, showing that they clearly understand each other. So yeah, I think it’s safe to say this was a plot hole.

While I’ll always encourage people to watch thinks for themselves and make up their own minds, I will admit that I do not care for Rock-a-Doodle. In fact, I’m not a fan of any of the movies Don Bluth did between this one and Anastasia.

    • Aww, I was really hoping only Anne-Marie understood King Gator. But I still love the movie, plot hole & all!

I’ll definitely check out Anastasia, and mayyybe Rock-a-Doodle if I’m feeling risky.
