I had never even heard of this cartoon before you guys did this episode. So I decided to check it out and watch the same three episodes you two did.
The short length of the episodes really threw me for a loop, and honestly, made it hard for me to really get into the show. I just never felt like I got a feel for any of the characters, except for maybe Raven, and for me the characters are the most important aspect of any show. Maybe I would’ve like this show better if I had watched those ‘beginning’ episodes first, but I can only judge what I watched.
It reminds me of that My Little Pony spin-off, Equestria Girls, which took place in an alternate universe where the characters were teenage girls in high school. They did a web series of that show on youtube too and it was about the same length as this show and the episodes had a similar tone and sense of humor, when they weren’t music videos. However, Equestria Girls, was a spin-off using the same characters from the original show, all of which pretty much retained their personalities. It also helped that Equestria Girls had 4 movies before their web series to introduce the audience to the world and any new characters (although you mentioned this show had a movie too, but I don’t know if that movie was meant to be the series introduction or happen later).
While I personally couldn’t get too into this show, I definitely would not call it a bad show. The first and third episode actually did give me a few good laughs. I’d also agree with you guys that this is a good show for parents to watch with their daughters. If I had a daughter I certainly wouldn’t mind watching this show with her.
Overall if I had to give this a rating like you guys I’d probably give it 3, or maybe 3 1/2, stars.
As for next time, the original Thundercats is one of those shows that was before my time that I could just never get into like I could with Transformers or G.I. Joe. My older sister used to love it through, it was one of her favorite childhood cartoons along with He-Man and She-Ra. So I’m still looking forward to the episode, even if the original Thundercats isn’t my favorite show (I love the reboot).
