New Friday the 13th TV Series!

Slasher film icon, Jason Voorhees, finally gets his own hour long ongoing TV series!

It looks like it’s going to revolve around Crystal Lake’s denizens, and their reactions to Jason’s initial return; looking at it canonically, that means that it’s probably going to take place after movie #3, when Jason first gets his hockey mask. As they plan to delve into the rest of Jason’s family, as well — including his mother, I’m sure — I imagine there will be quite a few flashback sequences, and/or some insane Texas Chainsaw Massacre-esque family reunions.

To be a successful modern TV series, there will more than likely be a group of protagonists for people to get attached to, which will consist of at least 1 psychic, no doubt, to dig into Jason’s mind and giving the flashbacks more structure, while providing more back-story for Jason. Although, it would be interesting if they made sort of an anthology out of it, starting with a new set of protagonists (victims?) each episode, telling tales of their experiences with Jason (and the rest of the Voorhees family) — almost like the series Freddy’s Nightmares, if anyone remembers that.

Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection [Blu-ray]

With all that being said, this is just wild speculation on my part, as nothing has really been confirmed, nor has a release date been announced. Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment are already planning production, so here’s hoping that we soon see Jason pulling more canoe riders under water, decapitating more folks with his machete, and slamming more occupied sleeping bags into trees.
